Too young to know?

So I was cooking dinner the other night and chatting with my daughter about her day. After a little time of small chit chat she asks for my opinion on something. So the beginning of the conversation kind of went like this.
Tamara: so ummm , yeah well it's, okay so we were talking at school today and ummmm
Me: What honey? what's up
Tamara : okay so do you think we're too young to know if we're gay?
Me : ummmmm.....well I'm not sure*insert 10 second pause here*
So my thought process after her question went something like this.
Really?? How the hell did I miss that? I thought she liked guys!! Way to go Tracy, you're so not the observant mother I thought you were. LMFAO....okay smile and answer the poor girl.
Me : I think that at your age you would know what you're attracted too right, so you're attracted to girls more then boys?
Tamara : lol.....it's not me mom, I definitely like boys.
So I'm not gay but I do know what it feels like to be attracted to the opposite sex. Attraction is attraction whether you're gay or not...so when did I first notice boys? Was it then that I knew what my sexuality was or was it later on? Okay that was too long ago so I need to stick with what I do know. I told her that kids her age may not know if they're "gay" but they know what their attracted too. If they're attracted to the same sex then it's a starting point perhaps to their sexuality. In my opinion it would be hard to say at this age with no real connection physically or emotionally to the other person to know if you're gay. I mean I have been attracted to women too but the idea of being intimate with them was never a thought for me. So she explains to me that her friend is confused and is attracted to both boys and girls but likes girls better. What do you say to that? You know that she's going to go back to her friend and talk to her about what you say. Ughhhh....
 So I did the best I could, I told her that her friend needs to be careful and not label herself. That her friend is still young and doesn't need to find herself in 30 seconds. Running around one week with a girl and the next with a boy is only going to attract unwanted attention and the rumours will begin. There is nothing wrong with being gay of course but it's not just something you say for attentions sake. Gay people have had to fight for respect, understanding,acceptance and the right to just be treated normal with the right to not hide what they really are inside and without fear of being bullied, ostracized, excluded, beat up or left out of participating in life. I also told her that her friend should speak to her parents if they're open to discussions but sadly if they're not, there are adults that are. I'm so thankful that Tamara will talk to me about anything and comes to me for advice. I just don't know if what I said was enough or if I even came close to handling the situation correctly. I just pray that it helped. She said it did but....is she too young too know?

Merry Christmas

Well it's that time of the year were everyone should be spreading Christmas cheer with smiles and laughter. However, all I'm hearing is a bunch of complaining about what should or shouldn't be said in order not to offend peoples ideals of what the season is all about. Everyone has an opinion, everyone has their own beliefs so here is mine.

I am Catholic, therefore I believe in God, Jesus and the Virgin Mary. I don't believe you HAVE to attend Church physically to be a good Christian. My body and my home is our "Church". We pray like everyone else and not just when we want something from God but to thank him for our many blessings and to guide and protect everyone. We have FAITH, which has more value then any building could offer.
I realize that there are MANY religions out there, that our country is multicultural and everyone prays to a different God that may not necessarily be mine and I'm completely good with that. Where I have a problem is when I'm asked to change or remove my beliefs because it may offend someone. *insert bad language here*
This country was built on the back bone of Christians who have fought for the rights we have today and there's just no respect anymore. Too many feel entitled instead of feeling grateful. Too many expect more instead of earning more. This gimme gimme mentality makes me sick. So many come here and appreciate what this country has to offer. They contribute and try to assimilate because they came here for a better life after seeing and hearing how WE Canadians live. They knew we celebrated Christmas, they knew it was a Christian society.....IT WASN'T A SURPRISE!!! So why? Why is it such a big deal now? Because people come here and feeling entitled instead of feeling grateful, expecting more instead of earning more. My family has been here since before the 1800's so maybe you can understand why tradition is so important to me. I view it this way, I was celebrating Christmas and saying Merry Christmas long before most of you or your families joined us in this fine country so please do me the honour of smiling and returning the favour when I say it to you. After all, if I was in your home country I'd be expected to do the same and I would, graciously out of RESPECT.

alot to learn

Well it looks like I have alot to learn about blogging and setting up templates and html's and pictures....lol
It's all good though, I'm excited about finding something new to learn as well as let off some steam on here. My intention won't be to shock or offend anyone but i'm sure there will be a few surprised at what I really thing on certain things. I think I might even use this blogging space to dish out some anonymous advice.
Well I just wanted to get my feet a little wet while I was at work on my lunch hour. Time to get back to the grind and I'll see you all on the flip side.
